Post EANGUS Minute Man Update - 27OCT06
Dear EANGUS Subscriber,

This is an official publication of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard, United States. (Please feel free to forward this to others who may be interested in the subjects presented here.)

# A Bi-Partisian Association

Recently we received concerns from some readers regarding the content of a recent article we included in our last minuteman update. Specifically, a newsrelease from one of our friends on Capitol Hill. We attempt to provide informative articles regardless of the originating source, i.e., Republican, Democratic, Liberal, DoD, or somewhere in between. The important message that we reported on reflected on the key points of the Defense Authorization report pertaining to military readiness and families. We apologize to our readers that may have missed the intent of the article, and focused on the source of the information. Our goal and purpose of our weekly updates is to provide information that will inform and educate our readers on legislative actions taken, as well as provide you with references and reliable sources. If you have suggestions for articles or have valuable information that would be beneficial to our members and readers, please don't hesitate to contact us and share your information. You may contact us via email at: eangus@eangus.org or by calling us tollfree at 1-800- 234-3264. Thank you.

# TRICARE Uniform Formulary Update

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Dr. William Winkenwerder Jr., director, TRICARE Management Activity, decided to continue selected medications on the TRICARE Uniform Formulary and to designate others as nonformulary (or third tier) on October 23, 2006. The chart shows the medications, their status as formulary (tier-one generics or tier-two brand name) or third tier, and the implementation date.

# VA's Future Is Focus Of Umbrella Group

A new veterans' group panel is attempting an ambitious project to plot the future of the Department of Veterans Affairs, with the goal of finishing before the 2008 presidential election. The nine-member privately funded Commission on the Future of America's Veterans, backed with seed money from major veterans' groups and the promise of cooperation from VA, hopes that its independent status will free it to recommend changes without concern about political consequences. Their primary focus is Health Care, however they will also seek ways to improve the military-to-civilian transition for service members, to include better economic opportunities; study veterans's compensation and rehabilitation programs; and look at whether there are better ways to provide death and burial benefits. Five veterans' groups - the American Legion, AmVets, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars - approved the commission concept in June.

# In Honor of Veterans Day - Nov 11th

In honor of Veterans Day, beginning October 20th through November 11, Wal-Mart stores and SAM'S CLUBS across the U.S. created their annual in- store "Wall of Honor" to recognize military men and women currently serving our country, as well as the veterans who have fought to protect our freedom. During this time, customers wishing to honor their "hero" who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces are invited to bring a photo to any U.S. Wal-Mart or SAM'S CLUB Photo Center to be included on the Wall. Customers have their choice of one of the two packages courtesy of Kodak. The first package includes two free 5"x7" prints. One of the prints was placed in a decorative photo holder and added to the wall among other honored veterans and military men and women of that local community and the other print was given to the customer free of charge. The second package includes one 5"x7" print, one 3.5"x5" print and two wallet sized photos. The 5"x7" was placed on the "Wall of Honor." One wallet sized print was placed in a "Badge of Honor" and given to the customer along with the second wallet and 3.5"x5" print.
